The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) has clear rules about system size:
• A solar system must be designed to meet all of the site’s electricity needs (100%).
• When designing your system, we look at the amount of electricity you used in the previous year to set a target for production in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
• You can increase your target production if you install new major electrical equipment, but you must provide proof of installation and ownership.
Most inverters come with a monitoring system that will monitor the amount of energy your solar PV system is generating. However, we do recommend an additional system to monitor not only the energy generated but also the energy that is used; this way, you can ensure that your system continues to offset 100% of your usage!
